SNR (Single Number Rating) is the EU standard measure of hearing protection attenuation. An SNR of 25 dB reduces perceived noise by approximately 25 dB; SNR 32 dB provides greater attenuation for very loud environments. A general workshop producing 95 dB ambient noise (common near grinding, cutting, and hammering operations) requires protection with at least SNR 20 dB to bring exposure below the 75 dB safe limit.
