In 1993, the founding partner of Multi Trade Combines opened a
small counter at Talukdar Complex on Assam Trunk Road, in the heart of
Bhangagarh. The brief was simple: stock the tools and consumables the
region's contractors, plumbers, electricians and fabricators kept asking for
— and have them on the shelf the same day, not after a six-week wait from
Calcutta or Delhi.
Three decades later, the shutter still goes up in the same complex and the
same family still runs the counter. What's grown is the range. From welding
electrodes and manual lifting tackle in the early years, the shop has stepped
up — one authorised dealership at a time — into civil-lab instruments,
Kirloskar pumps, BDS Maschinen magnetic drills, Shakti welders, KEAA garage
tools, Loctite adhesives, Safelift slings and TECHMO wheel casters.
The job hasn't really changed. A site engineer walks in with a torn
specification sheet, a workshop owner phones for a replacement bearing for a
pump installed twelve years ago, an NHAI quality team needs an IS-marked cube
mould before tomorrow's pour. We try to say yes, it's in stock, and
when it isn't, we'll tell you exactly how many days it'll take and ring you
back when it lands.
We don't run a chain. We run a counter. Decisions are made face-to-face,
warranties are honoured by the people who sold you the machine, and the
proprietor still signs the day's job sheets. That's the whole offer — and
the reason customers from Tezpur, Tinsukia, Itanagar and Shillong still drive
to AT Road when they need something to actually work on Monday.
