About the IS 2925 Safety Helmet

The safety helmet is the single most recognisable item of personal protective equipment (PPE) on any construction or industrial site — and for good reason. It is the last line of defence between a falling object, a low beam or an accidental head impact and a potentially fatal head injury. Multi Trade Combines in Guwahati stocks IS 2925-certified industrial safety helmets from KARAM, Honeywell and Venus — three brands with established performance records in the Indian industrial safety market — available for individual purchase and bulk site-supply contracts across Northeast India.

The IS 2925 standard specifies a minimum shock-absorption capacity, tested by dropping a 5 kg striker from 1 m onto the helmet crown (the force transmitted to the head-form must not exceed 5 kN). Penetration resistance is tested with a pointed striker dropped from 1 m. The suspension harness — a 4-point or 6-point cradle of nylon webbing — distributes the impact energy across the head and maintains a standoff gap of at least 25 mm between the shell and the wearer's skull, which is the critical factor in impact energy absorption. An HDPE shell is the standard material, resistant to water, most industrial chemicals and UV degradation within the rated service life.

Northeast India's construction boom, expanding oil and gas sector, and tea-estate industrial operations generate consistent demand for IS 2925 helmets. Guwahati's multi-storey residential construction, Numaligarh Refinery expansions, BCPL petrochemical complex operations, Brahmaputra port and logistics developments, and tea-garden factory maintenance all require workers to wear helmets as a legal requirement under the Factories Act, BOCW Act and site HSE plans. KARAM and Venus helmets are popular for their combination of lightweight HDPE shells and adjustable ratchet harnesses; Honeywell helmets are specified on international EPC projects with global HSE standards.

Who Uses Safety Helmets in Northeast India?

All construction workers across Guwahati's building sites, from foundation labourers to structural steel erectors, must wear IS 2925 helmets — a requirement enforced by GMDA and Assam Building Regulations. Oil-sector workers at OIL India drilling sites in Sibsagar and Dibrugarh districts, and at ONGC's Jorhat field installations, wear IS 2925 helmets as part of mandatory PPE ensembles. Tea-estate factory workers in the CTC rolling, cutting and fermenting sections wear helmets near operating machinery. Hydropower construction crews on projects in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim work under mandatory hard-hat policies. Urban infrastructure project workers on Smart Cities Mission projects in Guwahati, Agartala and Shillong are required by CPWD and PWD specifications to maintain helmet compliance. We supply bulk site orders — 50, 100 or 500 helmets — with site-specific colour coding and label customisation on request. Individual counter purchases are equally welcome.

Pairs Well With

A complete head-protection package from Multi Trade Combines includes a safety helmet (IS 2925), a chin strap for wind-exposed or height work, and bump cap liner for prolonged wearing comfort in heat. The helmet pairs with a full-body safety harness (IS 3521) for work-at-height PPE compliance, safety boots, hi-vis vest and safety glasses for a complete site PPE ensemble. Industrial helmets can be fitted with face shield brackets, ear-muff attachments and head-lamp clips for specialist trades. Ask our team to quote a full site PPE kit for your project crew.

Frequently Asked Questions

What IS standard applies to safety helmets for construction sites in India?

Industrial safety helmets for construction and general industry in India must comply with IS 2925 (Industrial Safety Helmets), published by the Bureau of Indian Standards. IS 2925 specifies the shock absorption, penetration resistance, flammability and chin-strap retention requirements. On all government-supervised construction sites and in factories regulated under the Factories Act, IS 2925-marked helmets are mandatory. Multi Trade Combines stocks IS 2925-certified helmets from KARAM, Honeywell and Venus in Guwahati.

How often should a safety helmet be replaced?

The manufacturer's recommended service life for most IS 2925 safety helmets is three to five years from date of manufacture (printed inside the shell), assuming no impact or damage. However, any helmet that has sustained a significant impact — even one that does not show visible cracking — should be replaced immediately, as the internal structure may be compromised. Helmets exposed to ultraviolet radiation, chemicals or sustained heat may degrade faster. Our counter team can help you identify the manufacture date and advise on replacement cycles for your site fleet.
