Safety goggles in clear, shaded and chemical splash variants — IS-certified eye protection for grinding, welding, chemical handling and construction work; Multi Trade Combines stocks these at AT Road, Guwahati, price on request.
Safety goggles are close-fitting eye protection devices that seal around the eye socket — unlike safety spectacles which only protect from the front. This sealed fit prevents flying particles, dust, chemical splashes and liquid droplets from entering around the sides or bottom, making them far more protective than spectacles for hazardous environments. A good pair of safety goggles has an impact-resistant polycarbonate or acetate lens, anti-fog coating, and ventilation ports (indirect vented for liquid splash protection, direct vent for dust and particle environments).
Three main types are commonly used on NE India job sites and workshops:
Multi Trade Combines stocks all three variants at our AT Road, Guwahati counter for workers across Northeast India's construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

Eye protection is one part of a complete PPE system:
For arc welding (MMA, MIG, TIG), welders must use a proper welding helmet or welding shield — not ordinary safety goggles — as the intense UV and IR radiation from an arc will cause arc eye (photokeratitis) within seconds even through clear goggles. Safety goggles are worn by assistants and bystanders near the welding area, not the welder directly. For gas welding and cutting (oxy-acetylene), shade 5 or shade 6 goggles are appropriate. For grinding work near a welder, clear anti-scratch impact goggles are correct. Never use ordinary safety specs in place of a welding helmet for direct arc exposure.
Yes — for sites governed by the Factories Act, Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act, or any government infrastructure contract, eye protection must conform to IS 5983 (industrial eye and face protectors). IS-certified goggles carry the ISI mark and have been tested for impact resistance, optical quality and coverage. Using non-certified goggles on a regulated site can lead to the PPE being rejected by the site safety officer. We supply IS-certified safety goggles at our Guwahati counter and can provide documentation for site safety audits.
