Frequently Asked Questions

Is a safety helmet compulsory on Indian construction sites?

Yes — under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act 1996 and its regulations, employers must provide and workers must wear safety helmets on construction sites. The helmet must be BIS ISI marked (IS:2925). KARAM and other brands at our Guwahati counter carry ISI certification. Supervisors and engineers on site are equally required to wear helmets — no exemption for office staff visiting the site.

What is a full-body harness used for on a construction site?

A full-body harness is the mandatory fall-arrest equipment for any worker operating at height above 2 metres — on scaffolding, rooftops, ladders, elevated platforms or falsework. Under Indian safety regulations, a safety harness must be used with a shock-absorbing lanyard attached to a secure anchor point above the worker. The KARAM full-body harness at our counter meets EN 361 and IS 3521 standards. We stock harnesses, lanyards, karabiners and anchor slings as a system.
