E6013 (Mild Steel General Purpose) is a rutile-coated electrode that produces smooth, easy-to-use welds with moderate penetration, making it suitable for light fabrication, sheet metal, and general repair work. It runs on AC or DC and is forgiving of joint fit-up variations. E7018 (Low Hydrogen Iron Powder) has a basic coating that produces welds with very low hydrogen content, high tensile strength (70,000 psi), and excellent impact properties — critical for structural steel, pressure vessels, and heavy fabrication where weld cracking or hydrogen embrittlement must be avoided. E7018 requires a dried, hermetically sealed container and careful storage to prevent moisture pickup in the coating; once opened, unused electrodes must be stored in a rod oven.
Old steel structures in Northeast India — bridges, buildings, and industrial plant — are often made from low-grade mild steel of uncertain composition. For repair welding on unknown or mixed composition steel, E6013 is a safe first choice for non-structural repairs. For structural repairs requiring certified weld quality, ESAB OK 48.00 (low hydrogen, AWS E7018) provides strong, crack-resistant welds with good mechanical properties across a wide range of mild and medium-carbon steel. For cast iron repair (engine housings, machine beds), a nickel electrode is required — we stock Ador and D&H nickel electrodes for this purpose.
