Complete oxy-acetylene cutting outfit — regulators, cutting torch, twin hose, and nozzle set for mild steel plate, pipe, and structural steel cutting on site or in the workshop.
An oxy-acetylene cutting set is a complete gas cutting outfit that uses a high-temperature flame produced by burning acetylene in a stream of oxygen to cut mild steel. The process relies on the reaction between the steel and a high-pressure jet of oxygen at the cutting point — the steel oxidises (burns) in the oxygen stream and the molten oxide is blown clear by the oxygen jet, leaving a clean cut kerf. The flame (from the premix of acetylene and oxygen in the torch) heats the steel to its ignition temperature; the cutting oxygen jet then does the actual cutting.
Oxy-acetylene cutting sets have been a foundation of steel fabrication, demolition, scrap processing, and maintenance work in Northeast India since before the region's industrialisation. They require no electrical supply — a significant advantage on remote project sites in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya hill terrain, and riverine areas of Assam where grid power is unreliable. The equipment is portable, cuts all thicknesses of mild steel from thin sheet to heavy plate and sections, and the initial capital cost is lower than plasma cutting systems.
Scrap metal dealers and steel merchants use oxy-acetylene cutting sets to reduce scrap to manageable sizes for transport and processing — a daily activity in Guwahati's Fancy Bazaar and Uzanbazar metal trading areas. Steel fabrication workshops use them for cutting thick plate, large pipes, and structural sections beyond the capacity of angle grinders and chop saws. Demolition contractors cutting old steel bridges, building frames, and industrial structures use oxy-acetylene cutting as the primary tool.
Oil field maintenance teams in ONGC's Assam fields at Jorhat, Moran, and Duliajan use portable oxy-acetylene sets for emergency pipe cutting and repair work in the field, where electrical power for a plasma cutter may not be available at the pipeline location. Tea estate engineering departments use them for cutting worn shafts, plates, and structural elements during factory overhauls. River dredging and barge maintenance operations on the Brahmaputra use oxy-acetylene sets for cutting and welding hull repairs and dredge arm fabrication.
The cutting set pairs with ESAB welding electrodes and an arc welding machine for complete cut-and-weld capability on site, and with welding gauges and helmets from our safety range for proper operator protection. All are available at Multi Trade Combines, Guwahati.

A complete oxy-acetylene cutting set includes: oxygen and acetylene cylinder pressure regulators (with gauges for cylinder pressure and working pressure), a cutting torch body with a cutting attachment or a dedicated cutting torch, twin hose assembly (red for acetylene, blue/green for oxygen), a set of cutting nozzle tips (different tip sizes for different plate thicknesses), tip cleaning reamers, hose check valves (non-return valves on both hoses to prevent flashback propagation), a lighter or spark igniter, and protective goggles (shade 5 for oxy-acetylene cutting). Gas cylinders are supplied separately by authorised gas dealers; Multi Trade Combines can advise on cylinder sourcing in Guwahati.
Oxy-acetylene flame cutting (oxy-fuel cutting) can cut mild steel from approximately 3 mm to over 300 mm thickness by changing the cutting nozzle tip size. For 3–25 mm plate, a size 1–3 nozzle is typical; for 25–100 mm, size 4–5; for thicker sections, larger nozzles with higher oxygen pressure are used. Stainless steel and cast iron cannot be cut by standard oxy-acetylene flame cutting because they do not support the oxidation reaction that the process depends on — plasma cutting is required for stainless. Aluminium also cannot be oxy-fuel cut. The complete kit from Multi Trade Combines is suitable for mild steel cutting from thin plate to heavy structural sections.
