Automotive OBD diagnostic scan tools for reading and clearing fault codes on BS IV and BS VI vehicles — in stock at Multi Trade Combines, AT Road, Guwahati. For car service workshops across Northeast India.
An OBD (on-board diagnostic) scanner is the essential diagnostic instrument for any modern vehicle service workshop. Every BS IV and BS VI vehicle sold in India has an OBD port — a standardised interface to the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU) — that stores fault codes when the engine management, transmission, ABS, airbag or other electronic system detects an out-of-tolerance condition and illuminates the corresponding warning light on the dashboard. Without an OBD scanner, a technician cannot read what fault code the ECU has stored and is reduced to time-consuming manual symptom investigation. With an OBD scanner, the fault code is read in seconds and the diagnostic path is immediately focused.
Multi Trade Combines stocks a range of OBD diagnostic scan tools at our AT Road, Guwahati counter — from entry-level code readers that display and clear engine management DTCs through to professional multi-system scanners covering engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, TPMS and body systems on a wide range of vehicle makes. The right scanner depends on the range of vehicles your workshop services and the depth of diagnostic capability you need — our counter staff can advise based on your workshop's specific requirements.

Guwahati's vehicle population is one of the fastest-growing in Eastern India, with passenger car and SUV ownership expanding rapidly across the city's growing urban middle class and the surrounding Kamrup metropolitan district. Every modern car brought to a service workshop for an engine warning light, transmission fault, ABS failure or emission test failure requires OBD scanning as the first diagnostic step. Multi-brand car service garages throughout Guwahati — on GS Road, Ganeshguri, Beltola and Basistha — use OBD scanners daily as their primary fault identification tool. Pre-purchase inspection services use OBD scanning to check second-hand vehicles for hidden stored faults before a buyer commits to a purchase. Fleet managers operating company car fleets across Assam use OBD scan results to prioritise maintenance across their vehicles. The OBD scanner pairs with the two-post vehicle lift, impact wrench and wheel aligner — together forming the core diagnostic and servicing toolkit available from Multi Trade Combines, Guwahati.

All passenger vehicles manufactured for the Indian market from April 2001 (OBD1 standard) and from April 2010 (OBD2/EOBD standard) are legally required to have an on-board diagnostic (OBD) port. All BS IV and BS VI compliant vehicles — which covers virtually every car, SUV, and light commercial vehicle sold new in India since 2017 — are OBD2 compatible. This means OBD2 scanners work across the full range of modern Indian-market vehicles regardless of brand: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Honda, Toyota, Kia and all other manufacturers. Heavy commercial vehicles (BS IV and BS VI trucks and buses) also have OBD ports but may require a heavy vehicle scanner with specific commercial vehicle protocols. An OBD scanner can read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the vehicle's ECU. Clearing a code removes the warning light from the dashboard and erases the stored fault record. However, if the underlying fault condition that triggered the code has not been repaired, the code will return — often within a short drive cycle. Clearing the code without repairing the fault is only a temporary measure. The OBD scanner's value is in reading the code to identify what the fault is, so the technician can diagnose and repair the root cause correctly.
