About the MIG Welding Wire

Counter expertise from Multi Trade Combines, AT Road, Guwahati — serving Northeast India since 1993.

MIG welding wire is the primary consumable in any GMAW (gas metal arc welding) operation. The wire spool feeds continuously through the torch liner and contact tip, melting into the weld pool at the rate set by the wire-feed speed control on the machine. Quality of the wire — consistent diameter, smooth copper coating, correct chemistry — directly determines arc stability, spatter level, weld bead appearance and mechanical properties of the finished joint.

The most common grade is ER70S-6: a deoxidised copper-coated mild-steel wire that produces a clean, spatter-minimal arc on CO₂ or Ar-CO₂ mixed-gas shielding. The three diameters cover different applications: 0.8 mm is ideal for thin sheet (1.5 mm to 4 mm) in auto bodywork, light structural sections and food-equipment stainless overlays; 1.0 mm is the workhorse of medium fabrication (4 mm to 10 mm) used in most Guwahati structural shops; 1.2 mm handles heavy plate and thick fillet welds in production welding of machinery frames and structural beams.

Northeast India buyers: every fabrication workshop with a MIG machine is a MIG wire buyer — from small auto-repair shops in Guwahati running 180 A machines on 0.8 mm wire to large structural contractors in Dibrugarh and Jorhat running 400 A three-phase sets on 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm wire. Stainless wire grades (ER308L for standard austenitic stainless, ER316L for marine-grade) are used by dairy equipment fabricators, breweries and food-processing plant maintenance in Assam's agro-industrial corridor.

What pairs with the wire: a CO₂ or Ar-CO₂ gas regulator and flow meter, contact tips (matched to wire diameter — 0.8 mm tip for 0.8 mm wire), shroud/nozzle, anti-spatter spray to minimise nozzle clogging, a wire cutter for spool end removal, and auto-darkening welding helmet. We carry all these accessories at our AT Road Guwahati counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which MIG wire diameter is best for welding 3 mm mild steel plate?

For 3 mm mild steel plate, 0.8 mm wire is ideal — it gives good fusion without burn-through at lower wire-feed speeds, and works well on single-pass butt and fillet welds. Use CO₂ or 75% Ar / 25% CO₂ shielding gas. Call +91 91812 13332 for current wire stock and pricing.

Do you stock stainless MIG wire and CO₂ regulators in Guwahati?

Yes. We carry ER70S-6 mild-steel wire and ER308L stainless MIG wire in 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 mm on 5 kg and 15 kg spools, along with CO₂ and Ar-CO₂ regulators and flow meters. WhatsApp +91 76359 98826 for pricing and availability.
