MIG welding wire is the primary consumable in any GMAW (gas metal arc welding) operation. The wire spool feeds continuously through the torch liner and contact tip, melting into the weld pool at the rate set by the wire-feed speed control on the machine. Quality of the wire — consistent diameter, smooth copper coating, correct chemistry — directly determines arc stability, spatter level, weld bead appearance and mechanical properties of the finished joint.
The most common grade is ER70S-6: a deoxidised copper-coated mild-steel wire that produces a clean, spatter-minimal arc on CO₂ or Ar-CO₂ mixed-gas shielding. The three diameters cover different applications: 0.8 mm is ideal for thin sheet (1.5 mm to 4 mm) in auto bodywork, light structural sections and food-equipment stainless overlays; 1.0 mm is the workhorse of medium fabrication (4 mm to 10 mm) used in most Guwahati structural shops; 1.2 mm handles heavy plate and thick fillet welds in production welding of machinery frames and structural beams.
