Manual lever ratchet hand winch from 500 kg to 5 tonnes — for pulling, dragging, and tensioning without power on construction sites, farms, and recovery operations across NE India.
A hand winch machine is a manually operated ratchet pulling device using a lever handle, a wire rope drum, and an internal ratchet mechanism to pull, drag, or tension heavy loads without electrical or hydraulic power. The operator pumps the lever back and forth in short strokes; the ratchet locks the drum at each stroke, preventing the load from running back, so force is accumulated incrementally until the required pull is achieved. Hand winches are rated from 500 kg to 5 tonnes working load and are designed for pulling loads horizontally along factory floors, pulling equipment up inclines and ramps, vehicle recovery, and tensioning cable and lashing systems.
Multi Trade Combines stocks hand winch machines as part of our Lifting & Handling range in Guwahati. They are a practical tool for any operation that needs controlled pulling force without a powered winch — road-side vehicle recovery, construction site equipment movement, and marine and inland waterway cargo positioning at the Pandu and Dhubri ports in Assam.
Vehicle recovery and breakdown service operators across Assam use hand winches as a backup and secondary pull tool when a powered recovery winch cannot reach or position correctly. A hand winch can be anchored to a tree or structure and used to drag a bogged vehicle onto firmer ground before the tow truck arrives. During the monsoon season in Assam — when roads flood and soft shoulders collapse — roadside recovery demand increases sharply and hand winches are a practical, carry-anywhere tool.
Construction site teams use hand winches to drag plant and equipment that cannot be driven — compressors, generators, and water pumps — from low loaders into position on site, and to pull formwork panels and steel sections into precise position before bolting. The leverage of a hand winch allows one or two workers to reposition loads that would otherwise require a crane or heavy plant.
Tea estate and agricultural machinery maintenance teams use hand winches to drag tractors, harvesters, and irrigation pump sets out of muddy ground. Small fishing boat operators on Assam's rivers and the Brahmaputra use them for hauling nets and positioning craft. Mining operations in Meghalaya use hand winches for material haulage in locations without power access.

A hand winch (lever winch or ratchet winch) uses a lever handle with a ratchet mechanism and a steel wire rope drum to pull loads horizontally, on inclines, or vertically in short travel distances. It is designed for pulling and tensioning applications — dragging machinery along a floor, tensioning a lashing, or pulling a vehicle recovery. A chain block (chain hoist) uses a hand-pulled link chain and internal gearing to lift loads vertically with a longer travel range and better overhead suspension characteristics. For horizontal pulling and tensioning tasks, a hand winch is more efficient; for vertical lifting, a chain block is the correct tool.
Working Load Limit (WLL) is the maximum load a winch is rated to pull or hold safely in normal use. For a 3-ton (3000 kg) pulling task, the winch WLL must be at least 3 tonnes — but in practice, choose one WLL step above your maximum anticipated load to give a safety margin for shock loading, friction, and incline effects. The wire rope on the winch drum must also be rated to at least the winch WLL; never use a higher WLL winch with an undersized wire rope. Our lifting & handling counter can advise on wire rope diameter and grade for your winch capacity.
